US Ambassador visits St George’s
- Helen Reeves
The US Ambassador, His Excellency Matthew W. Barzun, visited St George’s Church as part of this year’s Pocahontas 400 celebrations.
The event, titled Pocahontas Remembered, was organised by the Big Ideas Company and brought together a wonderful mix of people including: the 17th great grandson of Pocahontas John Rolfe, Stephanie Pratt the Native American Ambassador, Mayor Cllr Greta Goatley and Cllr Jordan Meade and young people from St John’s Roman Catholic School.
Stories, poetry, music and reflections were shared around the short life of Pocahontas, dying as she did in Gravesend aged only 21 years. During her brief life she accomplished much for a young female of her time and offers an example of a peacemaker with the courage to stand up for peace and reconciliation.
